THE HARDWICK GAZETTE, Hardwick, VT, 24 September 2003 Goree Island To New York Starts at COC By Dave Morse Craftsbury Victor Mooney's 8,000 mile transatlantic row from Goree Island to New York City will start tomorrow with four days of intensive training at Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Mooney, 38, of Woodhaven, NY, looks to encourage abstinence, HIV/AIDS prevention, and raise funds for AIDS organizations. Mooney will immerse himself in the Roylerow Performance Training Program offered by Marlene Royle, [program] coordinator at COC. Concept 2 has donated a [rowing] machine for the program. For four years, Mooney has battled the seas around Long Island and Manhattan. His cause and uncommon vehicle come from a lifelong love of canoeing and a desire to continue the work of the late New York City Cardinal John O'Connor. Awareness, not fund raising dollars, is Mooney's goal. Mooney is the spokesperson for ASA- The College of Advanced Technology, located in Brooklyn. Mooney also serves as the founder and executive director of South African Arts International, and art and artist exchange group. For more on Mooney's odyssey go to www.goreechallenge.com. |
