November:

Head of the Lake: 11/12/00, Seattle WA, 4800, Anita Bigelow of Portland, OR, takes 2nd place in the Women's Master's 2x clocking 23:43 after brushing a navigational buoy!

Frostbite Regatta: 11/11/00, Seattle WA, 1000m, Anita Bigelow places 2nd in the Women's Master's 2x in a time of 4:16.

Frostbite Regatta: 11/11/00, Philadelphia PA, Peter Falk of Warthogs RC placed 2nd in the Men's Master's 2x.

Head of the Occoquan: 11/04/00, Fairfax Station VA, Gia DeAngelis and Karen Pape of Rivanna RC conquer 1st  place in the Women's Master's 2x with a time of 18:29.

Head of the Hooch: 11/04/00, Gainesville GA, Debra Kamrad of D & D Boat Club takes 1st place in the Women's Master's 2x event in a time of 20:40.6. Nancy Morris rowed with the St. Louis Women's Master's 8+ to claim gold.

October:

Head of the Schuylkill: 10/28/00, Philadelphia PA, 2.75 miles, Gia DeAngelis, Rivanna RC, places 2nd in the Master's Women's 1x , surviving "horrendous conditions: white caps and eddy currents under bridges!" 

Head of the Fish: 10/28/00, Saratoga Springs NY, 2.75 miles, Dave Powers covers the Fish Creek course in 20:56 to place 3rd in the Recreational 1x's class. Kirsten Piotrowski rowing with "OARS" places 3rd in the Master's Women's 4+ and 13th in the Open Women's 4+.

Head of the Charles: 10/21/00 & 10/22/00, Boston Ma, 3 miles, Gia DeAngelis, Rivanna RC: 2nd Master's 2x, 19:23.88; Peter Falk, Warthogs RC: 3rd Master's 2x (50+), 19:33.76; Rob Slocum, Norwalk River RA: 6th Grand Master's 1x, 20:22.88;  Debra Kamrad, FL, 16th Senior Master's 1x, 26:35.60; Anna Borro, Three Rivers RC, 21st Club 1x, 26:21.65; Warren Kaplan, CRI: 36th Grand Master's 1x, 25:33. Kirsten Piotrowski rows with "OARS" and places 17/46 in the Women's  4+ in 21:08.

Ernestine Bayer Race on the Charles: 10/21/00, Boston Ma, 3 miles, David Ireland of NH,  places 1st in the Alden Star class in a time of 23:10. Dave Powers rows the Recreational 1x in 26:36.

Head of the Port of Sacramento, CA, Fred Conrad places 2nd in the Master's 1x in 27:07.

American Royal Fall Rowing Classic: 10/15/00, Kansas City, Steve Giddings of St. Louis, wins the Men's 1x in 19:02.

New Hampshire Championships: 10/15/00, Manchester NH, 5000m, Henri Powers of Community Rowing Inc. placed 2nd in the Master's Women's 1x in 26:26. Henri had the 5th time overall for Women's 1x's. David Ireland placed 5th in the Master's Men's 1x rowing the course in 24:02.

Head of the Connecticut:10/08/00, Middletown CT, A repeat victory for Rob Slocum in the Master's 1x (age 50-54). Rob's time was 23:02.99. Steve Platt, Swan Creek RC, places 5th in the Men's Master's 1x (age 36-42) in 25:23.69.

Head of the Housatonic:10/07/00, Derby CT, Rob Slocum, Norwalk River RA, places 1st in the Master's Men's 1x in 18:52.44. Steve Platt, Swan Creek RA, places 16th in a time of 20:26.9.

Head of the Ohio: 10/07/00, Pittsburgh PA, Karen Pape, Rivanna RC, 1st place in the Master's Women's 8+.

Head of the Mohawk: 10/07/00, Niskayuna NY, Kirsten Piotrowski again strokes the Open Women's 4+ and the Master's Women's 4+ to 1st place finishes for Albany . Mike Wagner, Sagamore R.A., placed 9th in the Men's Open 1x in  25:06.

Green Mountain Head: 10/01/00, Putney VT, Rob Slocum takes 1st place in the Men's Masters 1x 45-54 age group in a time of 20:54, he then teamed up with Andy Hall to place 3rd in the Men's 2x in 19:50. David Ireland had a strong showing:19th in the 45-54 age group with a time of 22:55.

Head of the Dog: 10/01/00, Portland OR, Anita Bigelow of Portland RC wins the Master's Women's 2x with a time of 23:57.30.

Head of the Hudson:  Kirsten Piotrowski strokes the Open Women's 4+ and the Master's Women's 4+ to 1st place finishes for Albany .

September:

Head of the Potomac: 9/23/00, Washing ton DC, Rob Slocum wins the Men's 50-59 1x easily and also captures the Master's Men's 2x with adjusted time rowing with Andy Hall.

Alden Rowing Nationals, 9/08-9/10, David Ireland places 1st in the Men's 2x with partner Tom Van Loan, 1st in the elapsed time for the 2x over 4 miles with wife, Carol, 2nd in the Men's Star 1x, and 3rd in the Mixed 2x over 1200m with Nicole Derushie, 16, from Canada.

 Megunticook Mini Marathon, Camden ME, 9/09, Rob Slocum, Norwalk River RA, places 4th overall in the Men's 1x.

FISA World Masters Championships, Belgium, 9/01-9/03, Gia DeAngelis takes a Silver medal placing in the WB 1x.

Guelph Regatta, Ontario, Alethea Stoyanovich wins Gold in the mixed quad and Silver in the mixed double over 1000m.

August:

USRowing Masters Nationals, CA, 8/17/00-8/20/00, Congratulations on a Gold medal row to Rob Slocum, Norwalk River RA, in the Men's D2x. Rob teamed up with Andy Hall. Rob was also a finalist in the D1x and C2x.

Gia DeAngelis, Rivanna RC, took Bronze in the Women's A1x (she is a C1x!), Gia DeAngelis and Karen Pape, Rivanna RC, took 5th place in the Women's C2x. Karen Pape was a finalist in the Women's C1x. John Tyndall, Los Gatos RC, and Jennifer Bank, Sarasota Scullers, teamed up to take Bronze medal place in the Mixed C4x. Conditions were tough, rough, and windy out there, great job to all.

Canadian Henley Regatta, Ste. Catherines Ontario, 8/13/00, Betsy Nitschke, Rochester NY, Silver medal in the Women's Masters B 1x.  

Regatta of the Americas, Welland Ontario, 7/30/00, Betsy Nitschke, Rochester RC, Gold in the Women's Masters 4x with Rochester RC, Bronze in the Women's 2x and fourth in the Women's Masters 1x.

July:

Howard M. Smith Diamond State Masters, Middletown DE, 7/30/00, Gia DeAngelis, Rivanna RC won Gold in the WA 1x and Silver in the WB 1x. Karen Pape teamed up with Gia DeAngelis to win Gold in the WC 2x. Good job Karen and Gia!

Isle of Shoales- 28th running, Portsmouth NH, 7/15/00, 7.2 miles open water, David Ireland and Peter Spellman claimed the Alden 2x category in "very rough (most doubles swamped) conditions" This is David's second year in a row winning this event.

Sunshine Games, FL,7/08/00 Nancy Morris of Sarasota takes her second gold medal of the season in the Masters Women's C-D 1x event.

Kennebec River Flat Water Drag, Maine, 7/08/00, 3 mile stake race, Rob Slocum, Norwalk River RA, claims the Men's Master's B 1x in a time of 21:25. Rob also had the fastest adjusted time overall with 20:37.

June:

USRowing Northwest Regional Regatta, Seattle WA, 6/24/00, 1000 meters, Fred Conrad, Berkeley RC, rowed first across the line in the Masters E-F Mixed 2x with Ellen Braithwaite but placed 2nd with the handicapped time. Conditions reported as "gnarly". Fred also finished 5th in the E1x with a heat time in good conditions of 4:17.2. 

USRowing Southeast Regional Regatta, Aiken SC, 6/18/00, Nancy Morris, FL, claims her first Gold Medal in a singles event by winning the combined C-D Women's Masters 1x in a net time of 4:20. 1000m. Congratulations, Nancy.

3 Rivers Race, 13 miles, Ipswich to Newburyport MA, 6/17/00, David Ireland, NH, teamed up with partner, Peter Spellman, to defeat George Medelinski and John Condon in the Alden Doubles event. David/ Peter's time was "a little less than 2:15:00" and George/John's time "around 2:30:00" Overall, David writes: "we finished 4th overall behind Kinley Gregg and the racing kayaks" Definitely one of the more unique water events out there!

Head of the Hosmer, Craftsbury Sculling Center's weekly event, 6/16/00, Ellie Lampeter, NY, wins the Women's division over the 2700 meter course, 14:17.

USRowing Spring Tune Up Regatta, Camden NJ, 6/11/00, Rob Slocum, CT, takes Gold Medals in both the C1x and the D1x. 1000m.

California Henley, Redwood Shores CA, 6/11/00, 1200/1700 meters, Fred Conrad, Berkeley Rowing Club teamed up with Morgan Butler, CYC, to win Gold in the Men's Senior Masters 2x in a time of 6:30, 2 seconds ahead of the Eisenbud/Rumsey combination. He then leapt into the Mixed Masters 2x with Ellen Brathwaithe and claimed the Silver behind Rumsey/Wright. A good day's work, Fred.

Schuylkill Navy Regatta, Philadelphia, 6/10/00, Rob Slocum, CT, wins a Gold Medal in the D1x rowing 1000m and a Silver Medal in the Open Intermediate 1x rowing 2000m. Gia DeAngelis, Rivanna RC, doubles up in events to place 2nd in the Masters 1x B/C and 3rd in the Open Lightweight 1x. Special Note: Gia crossed the line ahead of Vicky Reynolds but placed 2nd with the handicapped time. 

Head of the Hosmer, Craftsbury Sculling Center VT, 2700 meters, 6/9/00, Rivanna RC's Gia DeAngelis takes 3rd in 13:08 and Karen Pape places 4th in 13:37 in the Women's Division.

The Moosehead Regatta, Greenville Jct. ME, 6/03/00, 4.5 miles, Chris Scott of NH, 57, wins Gold in the Masters C Alden Category with a time of 33:25. Chris was 2nd overall to Brook Sulloway, 44, 32:38. Stormy seas postponed the race until 5pm.

Head of the Hosmer, Craftsbury Sculling Center VT, 2700, Warren Kaplan of CRI places 4th in the Men's Division with a time of 14:35.

May:

Second Annual Goldrush Regatta, Sacramento CA, 5/27/00, Fred Conrad of Berkeley CA, wins a Gold Medal in the Masters D Mixed Double with Jane Toro for the Berkeley Rowing Club. Fred also won the Bronze Medal in the Masters E 1x, 4:24, 1000 meters.

Quahog Rowing Race, mid-May, David Ireland, NH, teamed with Peter Spellman to win this long distance Alden Ocean Shell race in the doubles event. Ride the waves!

February: 

CRASH-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships, 2/20/00, Jennifer Bank, FL, takes home the Silver Medal in the Women's 60-69 age group with a Personal Best time of 8:30.6. Gia DeAngelis,VA, battled hard to claim the Bronze Medal in the Lightweight Senior Masters Women's event with a time of 7:33. This is the 3rd best time in the world for this category at the time of writing.Rob Slocum, CT, rowed 6:28.6 and Chris Scott, NH, pulled a Personal Best of 7:25.1 in the Masters 50-59 group and Jim Evans, MA, also did a terrific job achieving a Personal Best of 7:05 in the Senior Masters event. 

Southern Erg Sprints, 2/13/00, Jan Fogt, FL, wins the Gold Medal for the Masters Women's event with a Personal Best of 8:35.5 and Jennifer Bank, FL, wins the Gold Medal in the Women's 60-69 age group but posted the fastest time of all the Masters women with an 8:30.8. Jennifer qualified for a paid trip to the CRASH-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston.

Granite Sprints Erg Races, 2/6/00, David Ireland, NH, rows to a Silver Medal in the Masters 50-59 category and Chris Scott, NH, rows a Personal Best also in the same event. Jim Evans, MA, rows to Fifth Place with a Personal Best in the Senior Masters event.

Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints, 2/5/00, Gia DeAngelis, VA, takes the Silver Medal in the Open Senior Masters Women's event with a Personal Best time of 7:27.8 and qualifies for a trip to the CRASH-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston.

January:

Rob Slocum, 51, CT, reclaims the Concept2 Indoor Rowing World Record for the Marathon distance (42 km) in a time of 2:31.55.9. That's an average of 1:48 per 500 meters. Rob also holds the World Record for the 100,000 meter row. Go Rob!
